One focus of research of the subject and research area for the processing of mineral raw materials (AMR) is senor-supported sorting. This is one of the so-called dry sorting processes used for grain sizes from 1mm to 300 mm. The AMR is currently world leader university research facility on this area and works for national and international mining companies and machine manufacturers within the scope of various research contracts.
Sensor-supported sorting combines a range of different detection methods which operate in a wide range of visible and invisible frequency spectrum – from X-ray to UV radiation, via photo-optical through to near-infrared and thermal infrared. In addition, image assessment processes are applied which enable targeted separation of mineral raw materials. Up to several tens of thousands of individual particles per second can be recognized per detector. Classified and discharged. This means that material flow of up to around 300t/h is possible. In the mining field the sensor-supported sorting enables for example separation of low-grade, stone band boulders prior to milling and the reduction of the use of process water and reagents. Processing is also enabled by means of deposits which up to now have not been mined economically and the re-processing of old mine dumps.
The AMR has a semi-industrial sorter which is unique worldwide with six different, Combinable sensors. Normally two sensors are used in industrial sorting plants.
