In order to cover the increasing worldwide demand for energy in future, engineers are required who are specialists for sustainable energy supply taking ecological and economic issues into consideration. Students of the Masters course in Sustainable Energy Supply are prepared and instructed in the future-oriented field of energy supply which has immense growth potential, and trained as experts with extensive know-how in the field of raw materials.

The Masters course is aimed at Bachelor graduates of various engineering courses such as e.g. Raw Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering who wish to gain extensive training in the field of raw materials engineering.

Structure and Contents of Course

The Masters course in Sustainable Energy Supply has a modular structure and comprises a total of 4 semesters whereby the 3 semester is also planned for i.a. professional experience and the fourth semester for the completion of the Masters dissertation.

Study Plan

Study contents of the Masters course mainly deal with the following subjects of raw materials engineering:

  • Planning of energy production plants
  • Technology Assessment
  • Raw materials characterization
  • Geology
  • Renewable Energies
  • Fuels processing
  • Energy management

The three faculties of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology as well as Geo-resources and Materials Engineering of the RWTH Aachen are involved in the inter-faculty Masters degree. Subjects taught in the Masters course are therefore enhanced with contents from Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering. A range of specialist areas can be selected to ensure individual development of the student and create a flexible course of studies.

Preconditions & Application

The Masters course in Sustainable Energy Supply is not restricted by the Numerus Clausus. However, the university degree required for admission to the course must comply with the quality requirements of the course.

Requirement for admission to the course of studies:

  • Recognized, initial vocational-oriented university degree from a university or university of applied sciences which verifies preparation for the course.

It is essential that students applying have knowledge of the following fields in the context of a Masters study for Sustainable Energy Supply:

  • Total of at least 90 CP in mathematical, natural sciences subjects, engineering subjects and/or basic subjects in the fields of raw materials management and engineering.

Applications must be submitted to the Exam Committee for the Masters course in Sustainable Energy Supply within the specified deadline.
